Energy-efficient LED lights are rapidly being installed to replace halogen bulbs in street lamps, across the world. Instead of being a soft orange, they’re usually a bright white.
I like orange more.
LED lights are white and terrible. Here’s why:
They’re energy efficient because they eliminate much of the green and red wavelengths but leave much of the blue light wavelength.
Blue light on its own disrupts melatonin production and jacks up cortisol. We didn’t evolve to only receive blue light.
Blue light is linked to melatonin suppression, dry eyes, visual fatigue, and much more.
It’s also less visually enjoyable to look at bright white-blue-light.
Humanity’s dilemma: Leaders making trade-offs - with greater hidden costs for the populace.
Short-sightedness and expediency are easy to find if you look for them around you.
From the way your home was built, the way the city is managed, etc.
It’s also perhaps present in your life.
Action steps:
Replace all the LED and CFL bulbs in your home with incandescent bulbs. Before they get banned.
Dim your phone screen and leave the night light feature on all the time.
Thank me later. And let me know what you think about these LED lights.
Bye for now.
I love that you included the green band in your analysis of the spectrum. FYI I write about EMF, sleep, and relationship psychology along with my wife (we are both holistic wellness coaches).
FYI a couple articles about blue light:
